Gamification,
a tech journey for good
Engaging tools for Students Purposeful Learning
Problem: At first, users didn’t realize that ubbu was about exploring different socio-economic realities through technology — using tech for good. With users we found that the story only became clear as they went deeper. Assumption: By making the storytelling journey of each story in our classes timeline more visible, we’ll make the experience more immersive from the start. By allowing users to visually explore each destination alongside coding challenges, they could immediately see how technology connects to real-world issues. This made their journey more engaging and meaningful.
Results and Impact
- ubbu world’s engagement per user increased by 40.6%, showing that the platform scaled well while deepening user interaction.
- Teacher engagement grew by 85.7%, and student engagement rose by 49.0%, meaning both groups became more active even as the user base expanded.
Engagement was measured by lessons started and resources played per active user, excluding YoY growth. This confirmed that gamified navigation boosted meaningful interactions while platform growth stayed strong.
Design Explorations for our Class Map Designed an intuitive map system focused on clear orientation, meaningful symbols, and visible progress indicators to enhance student navigation. Read more on why we think it was important to Gamify this experience
